Litz Wire

Multi-strand winding wire for high-frequency coils. Fine enameled strands are twisted or braided into one conductor so the current spreads through the whole bundle instead of crowding at the surface — which keeps AC resistance close to the DC value and keeps the winding cooler.

What Is Litz Wire?

Litz wire is a conductor built from many individually enameled fine strands twisted or braided together. In a solid conductor at high frequency the current is pushed towards the outer skin and towards the zones nearest neighbouring turns, so the usable copper shrinks and AC resistance rises. Splitting the same cross-section into insulated strands and transposing them distributes the current across the whole bundle, reducing resistance and loss at frequency.

Why stranding works

Two effects drive AC loss in a winding. The skin effect pushes current to the outside of the conductor; the proximity effect pushes it towards or away from neighbouring turns. Both leave part of the copper carrying almost nothing. Because each litz strand is enameled and the bundle is transposed along its length, every strand spends a comparable share of the run in each position, so the current divides evenly and the effective resistance stays close to the DC figure.

What you get

  • Low AC resistance and reduced loss in high-frequency windings
  • Cooler running coils, so more output from the same winding space
  • High flexibility — easier to wind on tight bobbins and toroids
  • Class 200 and class 220 constructions for demanding thermal duty
  • Strand size, strand count and lay built to your winding data

Jingda Litz Wire Options

Choose the conductor first — copper for the lowest resistance, copper-clad aluminum where weight and cost matter more — then the thermal class your winding hot spot requires. Strand diameter and strand count follow from the operating frequency and the current.

Performance and Applications

Jingda litz wire is built for windings that run at frequency: induction heating coils, switching transformers, resonant chokes and audio coils. Because the bundle keeps AC resistance close to the DC value, the winding dissipates less heat at the same current, which protects the insulation system and leaves more margin in the design.

Typical Applications

Induction cooker coils
High-frequency transformers
Audio systems
Industrial automation

Quality and Compliance

Every production lot is tested in Jingda’s CNAS-accredited laboratories and the results are held against the lot number, so a delivered spool can be traced back to its test record. Jingda operates an ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified quality system.

Ordering, Packaging and Delivery

Commercial termDetail
Minimum order quantityAgreed per construction and strand size. Sample and pilot-order quantities are agreed case by case.
Lead timeNormally within 30 days from order confirmation; stock constructions dispatch earlier where available.
IncotermsFOB by default; other Incoterms on request.
Quotation responseWithin 1 business day.
Packaging and shipment — litz wire

Litz wire is supplied on spools sized to the strand count and bundle diameter. Single spools for samples or small orders are packed individually in a wooden case or paper drum. Volume shipments use fumigation-free wooden pallets, with cartons or fibreboard collars protecting the spools and stretch film securing the load.

Spool type, wire weight per spool and pallet build are confirmed per order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is litz wire used for?
Litz wire is used wherever a winding carries alternating current at a frequency high enough for skin and proximity effects to matter — induction heating and induction cooker coils, high-frequency and switch-mode transformers, resonant inductors, wireless charging coils, audio crossovers and speaker coils, and coils in industrial automation equipment.
How do I specify a litz wire construction?
Four numbers define most constructions: strand diameter, number of strands, thermal class and lay (twist) length. Strand diameter is chosen so that it stays below roughly twice the skin depth at the operating frequency; the strand count then follows from the current the winding has to carry. Send the frequency, the current and the space available and Jingda will propose a construction.
Copper or copper-clad aluminum litz — which should I choose?
Copper gives the lowest resistance for a given cross-section and is the default for efficiency-driven designs. Copper-clad aluminum is lighter and lower in material cost, and works well where the winding has room for a slightly larger bundle. Jingda produces both to the same insulation system and thermal classes.
What thermal classes are available?
Class 200 and class 220. Both use a polyester(imide) basecoat with a polyamide-imide overcoat on each strand, which gives good heat resistance and an insulation film with high mechanical strength.
Can Jingda produce a non-standard stranding, serving or bundle?
Yes. Strand diameter from 0.15 to 0.80 mm and 10 to 130 strands are standard; conductor material, stranding method, lay length and insulation can be adjusted to the application. Constructions outside this range are reviewed by the technical team.
Can we become a Jingda distributor or agent?
Yes. Jingda works with distributors and agents across Europe, the Americas, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Japan, and is open to new partners in markets where coverage can be strengthened. Send your company profile, the market and industries you serve, and the product families you want to carry, and the export team will follow up.
How does Jingda support customers after the order?
Jingda’s technical team supports winding trials, specification alignment and problem analysis during qualification. Documentation including the data sheet, quality certificates and RoHS/REACH reports is issued with the order, and production lots are traceable to the test records held in Jingda’s CNAS-accredited laboratories.
