What Is 200-Class Enameled Copper Wire?

200-class enameled copper wire is a dual-coat winding wire rated for a thermal class of 200 °C. It pairs a high-purity copper conductor with a polyester or polyester-imide basecoat and a polyamide-imide topcoat, giving heat, abrasion and refrigerant resistance for motor and compressor windings.

Why two coats

The basecoat carries the thermal and chemical load. The polyamide-imide topcoat takes the abrasion and winding stress, and adds lubricity. Splitting the two jobs is what lets the film hold up in high-speed winding and in sealed refrigerant systems where a single-coat film would be marginal — and it keeps cost lower than building the whole film from the more expensive resin.

Spool types and pallet configuration — copper wire

Single spools for samples or small orders are packed individually in a wooden case or paper drum. Volume shipments use fumigation-free wooden pallets, with cartons or fibreboard collars protecting the spools and stretch film securing the load.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between 200-class and 220-class copper wire?
Both are dual-coat constructions. The 200-class (MW 35-C / MW 73-C, IEC 60317-13) suits most compressor, power tool and automotive motor windings. Move to the 220-class (MW 37-C, IEC 60317-57) when the hot-spot temperature of the winding exceeds what class 200 allows, or when the customer specification calls for it. If the winding runs above 220 °C, use the 240-class polyimide wire instead.
What is the difference between Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3?
They are insulation build thicknesses. Grade 1 (Single) has the thinnest film and the smallest overall diameter, which helps slot fill. Grade 2 (Heavy) is the most widely used and gives higher breakdown voltage and better mechanical protection. Grade 3 (Triple) is a custom build for the most demanding dielectric or abrasion requirements.
Is this wire suitable for hermetic refrigerant compressors?
Yes — refrigerant resistance is one of the defining properties of this construction, and compressors are a primary application. Confirm the specific refrigerant and lubricant combination for your sealed system with Jingda before qualification, since compatibility depends on the whole system rather than the wire alone.
Is this enameled copper wire directly solderable?
No. It is not designed for direct soldering through the enamel. For direct-tinning processes, use the 155/180-class solderable polyurethane wire, which is produced to IEC 60317-20 and IEC 60317-51.
Can Jingda supply non-standard diameters or insulation builds?
Yes. Metric, AWG and SWG diameters can be produced, and insulation build can be specified from Grade 1 to Grade 3. Special insulation or lubricant requirements are reviewed by the technical team against the application.
